Hi!

I’m Lucy and I’m excited to be joining the medic mentor community this year as VP for scholars.

I’m currently working as a core medical trainee doctor in Merseyside, with an interest in dermatology and medical education. From August I will be working as a locum dermatology registrar and medical registrar at Southport Hospital.

I graduated from Hull York Medical School in 2016. My notable achievements during med school include winning the York Travel Prize for a voluntary project in education in Ghana and finishing in the top ten in my year group final exams. I developed an early interest in medicine and completed a project on the use of biologics in rheumatological conditions, I presented this at a rheumatology conference in my 3rd year.

I completed my foundation training in Manchester Royal Infirmary, a city centre teaching hospital in the North West deanery. During these two years I acted as a pastoral mentor for undergraduate students at the University of Manchester. I also worked with the undergraduate office to set up a revision teaching scheme for 5th year students, presented later at a national conference.

My core medical training has involved rotations through rheumatology, infectious diseases, sexual health, care of the elderly, cardiology and critical care. I have worked in both teaching hospitals and district generals in the Mersey region and am experienced in the busy general medical take. I am currently working on a research project regarding the provision of healthcare services during the COVID-19 pandemic and I was a lead for the RECOVERY trial for COVID-19 patients in Southport Hospital.

I have completed a PGCert in Medical Education at Lancaster University, with a specific project on how to utilise media to enhance medical education. I love teaching and trying out new methods to make it fun.

As a medic it’s just as important to focus on your social life as well as your career. Outside of work I keep a work-life balance with my passions of cycling and skiing (before becoming a doctor I was a ski rep in Austria). I also love baking and trying out new recipes!
