Dental Awards Programme

Enrolling onto the Unlimited Mentoring Summer School also includes the Dental Awards Programme. The Dental Awards Programme has been produced and taught by qualified Dentists. It recognises your achievements with a Dental Award, unlocks valuable opportunities and helps you to work smart. The Awards guide you through the ‘non-academic’ admissions criteria for dental schools in a systematic way. The Dental Awards Programme is based on a mentoring process that is fun, enjoyable and takes some pressure and anxiety away from applying.

There are three levels of Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Students who achieve the Dental Mentor Gold Award (and obtain 1 dental school offer) are automatically guaranteed an interview for the opportunity to obtain a scholarship for university.

Virtual Work Experience

As an Unlimited Mentoring Summer School student you get instant access to all 4 sessions of the virtual work experience programme. If you’re a student with aspirations of becoming a dentist, then the Dental Mentor Virtual Work Experience Programme is an incredible opportunity that you won’t want to miss. Developed in partnership with the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, this programme provides a comprehensive and immersive virtual experience that will give you a real insight into the world of dentistry.

You’ll have the chance to learn from experienced dentists and healthcare professionals, and engage in a range of interactive and engaging activities that will help you develop your skills and knowledge. From learning about the latest dental treatments and technologies to gaining a deeper understanding of patient care, this programme has it all. The great thing is that you can complete all of it from the comfort of your own home, by working through the E-learning modules in your own time.

As an Unlimited Mentoring Summer School student, you are automatically enrolled onto the Dental Leadership Programme, without the need to submit a competitive application for a position because you are funding yourself. The Dental Mentor Dental Leadership Programme is an incredible opportunity for school students who aspire to become future leaders in dentistry. This programme offers a unique and exciting experience that combines hands-on practical tasks, tailored mentoring from experienced dental professionals, and exclusive access to a network of like-minded students who share the same passion for dentistry. You will be given the chance to develop essential leadership skills, explore research and wider-reading topics, and gain valuable experience that will set you apart in your dental school applications. As a participant, you will receive three additional teaching days each year (1 per school term), providing you with the tools you need to succeed in your future career. Through this programme, you will have the chance to work alongside a variety of dental professionals, gaining valuable insights and experiences that will help you stand out from your peers. Residential Or Virtual Summer School

The 5-day summer school component of the Dental Mentor unlimited mentoring programme offers an unparalleled opportunity for students to excel in their dental school application process. Whether chosen as a virtual experience or an in-person residential programme, this intensive segment provides comprehensive support and guidance. During these 5 days, students work closely with mentors through personalised 1-2-1 tutoring sessions, ensuring their dental personal statements reach an exceptional standard within just 2-3 days. Through unlimited personal statement revisions, students refine their statements to a level that is highly competitive and likely to be accepted by any dental school.

In addition to perfecting their personal statements, students at the summer school embark on valuable dental school interview preparation, granting them a substantial head start. While other students are still grappling with writing their personal statements, Dental Mentor students have already completed theirs and begun practicing for their dental school interviews. This early engagement and practice in the summer give them a significant advantage, allowing them to enter the interview process with a higher level of confidence and proficiency. By investing their time in the summer school, students set themselves apart from their peers, demonstrating their dedication and readiness for the rigorous dental school application journey.

Where are the in-person locations?

Dental Mentor offers students the flexibility to choose from two distinct in-person locations for the summer school component of the mentoring programme. In Scotland, the summer school takes place at the esteemed Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, providing students with a picturesque setting and a vibrant academic environment. In London, students have the opportunity to attend the summer school at the University of Greenwich, immersing themselves in the bustling capital city and accessing world-class facilities including the UK’s leading state-of-the-art dental simulation centre. These diverse locations ensure that students can select a summer school venue that suits their preferences, while still benefiting from the same exceptional level of mentorship, resources, and guidance.

What dates are still available?

The residential component of the programme is best attended during your ‘application summer’. This is the summer holiday that takes place before your penultimate year of secondary school. It is also the summer before you submit your UCAS application in October. So if you are currently in year 12/S5-6/Northern Irish 13 then you should be looking to secure a place this summer. If you are in a younger year group, you can enrol onto our unlimited mentoring programme to start your mentoring now and get a head start. You would then join us for the residential component in your application summer, having received even longer mentoring support to enhance your knowledge, confidence and abilities!

Virtual Summer School option

For students who prefer the flexibility of attending from their own location or face travel and visa constraints, Dental Mentor offers a brilliant virtual summer school option. The personal statement tutoring component and mock interview preparation are conducted with exceptional effectiveness online. Remarkably, we have observed no difference in the success rates between virtual and in-person summer schools. This virtual option is particularly beneficial for international students who may encounter challenges attending in-person, as well as students who simply prefer the convenience of a virtual platform. It is essential to ensure a reliable internet connection to fully participate in the programme, which operates on UK GMT. Despite the virtual setting, students receive the same level of contact time with their mentors as their in-person counterparts. Additionally, the virtual summer school provides an opportunity for students to network with peers from around the world, fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment.

UCAT Question Bank + Study Group + Mock Exams + Unlimited UCAT Tutoring for 5 weeks

We offer comprehensive UCAT support as part of our mentoring program, ensuring students have the tools and guidance they need to excel in this crucial exam. Our UCAT support package includes a UCAT Question Bank, a dedicated Study Group, Mock Exams, and unlimited UCAT tutoring for a period of five weeks between July and September (and students can choose which 5 weeks they would like to attend). The virtual Study Group is a valuable resource, with sessions held on Zoom every day from Monday to Friday. These sessions take place at 10am UK GMT and provide one hour of group teaching, allowing students to learn and discuss UCAT strategies and techniques. In addition, students have access to unlimited 1-2-1 tutoring during this period between 11am-6pm UKGMT, enabling them to receive personalised guidance and support for any challenging areas of UCAT during their revision period. To ensure students receive the necessary assistance, we track their scores and identify those who may be struggling. Our team is committed to providing tailored help and support to students who require it. Moreover, we conduct two mock exams each week, replicating the timed exam conditions. This allows students to practice thinking under pressure and become familiar with the exam setting, enhancing their performance on the actual UCAT exam day. With our comprehensive UCAT support, students can feel confident and well-prepared as they tackle this critical exam.

Mock Dental School Interview Days + Unlimited 1-2-1 Uni Specific Tutoring

Students participating in the Dental Mentor summer school, whether in-person or virtual, will have the opportunity to undergo mock interviews during the designated week. Additionally, they will benefit from two extra mock interview days that can be conducted in-person or virtually, which occur during interview season. These mock interview days are held in Stirling, Birmingham, and London on weekends from November to the end of February, providing students with flexibility to select the dates and locations that best suit their needs. Furthermore, students receive unlimited 1-2-1 interview preparation before each dental school interview. This personalised approach ensures that their interview preparation is tailored to the specific university that has invited them for an interview. In addition, students gain access to a comprehensive e-learning course that covers the intricacies of dental school interviews, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills. They will also have a bank of interview questions available for practice, allowing them to refine their responses in the comfort of their own homes. With this comprehensive interview support, students can confidently approach their dental school interviews and increase their chances of success.

What Happens If You Don't Get a Dental School Offer?

There are a small group of students every year who do not obtain offers to study dentistry. This is mostly to do with their school grades. However, we invite students to participate in all aspects of our comprehensive mentoring program once again, at not additional cost. This includes the unlimited mentoring components, such as personal statement tutoring, interview preparation, and access to question banks and study resources. We believe in giving students a second chance and empowering them to enhance their applications and increase their chances of success. Through our continued support, reapplication students who reapply with Dental Mentor have gone on to secure dental school offers during the second round of applications. We are proud of their achievements and remain committed to helping all of our students reach their goals of becoming successful dental professionals.
